The “Kick a Story into Secondary School” is an annual football tournament, intertwined with a quiz competition for children 11 years and below who are about to embark on their secondary School Journey. Questions asked on the quiz segment are centered on the contents of our theme book of the year and winners of the competition emerge based on points gathered from the football matches and the quiz competition.
Why Kick A Story?
Football: Despite the fact that some of the world’s best football players were discovered at very tender ages of 11 and below, the Nigerian child in the primary school level is usually overlooked for football competitions. By creating this avenue to express their football abilities, the children will get exposure that could assist in developing latent skills.
Book Reading: Reading cannot be overemphasized. Most children sadly do not have the opportunity to read books beyond their school curricula. “Asides encouraging children to be imaginative readers, the idea behind this project is to explore the richness of our proverbs as well as prominently highlight the symmetry and depth of Nigerian literature. There are Nigerian classics, like “Things Fall Apart” written by Chinua Achebe that every child should discover.
Community Participation: Kick a Story is targeted at children in communities. This provides a platform for the structuring of community football teams as well as engenders community participation in a project that will productively occupy children and empower them to be imaginative readers.
